In the wake of unarmed black males being killed, an increasingly tense racial climate, communities being burnt to the ground and two New York police officers being killed...many of us are finding it difficult to breathe. At a time like this we really need to muster up the "Strength to Love" that was exhibited by Dr. King and the civil rights workers in the 50's and 60's. This is why we chose the phrase, "Strength to Love" to be the central theme of this project. But what does having the "Strength to Love" mean for this generation? And what should be our creative and civic response? This is just an example of questions we are engaging during these discussions. Project length: Jan 31 - March 28 On Saturday every week This Project consists of creatives experiencing the theme "Strength to Love" through: 1. Dr. King's book "Strength to Love", the film “Selma”, #blacklivesmatter and other mediums. 2. Conversations that generate deeper creativity and greater understanding. 3. Creative expression on the theme. ie. art, poetry, music, film, dance or civic engagement 4. An exhibition/performance from participants at the close of the project.
